Default HELP! 2000, 200hp Evinrude FICHT RAM is it that bad???

I am getting ready to buy a 22' CC with the above motor, everyone keeps telling me the motor is crap and has tons of problems, I have called around and heard of 2 problems. Injectors falling apart and the ECU getting hot.The motor has 312 hours on it. the owner said no problems what so ever with it. hope someone on here can shed some light on this for me....Thanks so much.

The ECUs only get hot when the cooling system gets plugged up.The injectors had a recall 5 years ago. A dealer can tell you if it has been done, almost every motor was upgraded.Like any thing used, have the motor checked over completely by a QUALIFIED person as it is 5 years old already. Have them printout the computer history for you,You always take a chance when buying used, whether it's cars, boats, trucks, etc.

Seahorse, from doing some searching seems like your the pro here. what should i expect to pay to get the motor looked at, at a dealer? I called evinrude with the motor # and they said nothing has been done to the motor.I love this boat but this motor stuff is really scaring me.Chris

A thorough checkover of a used outboard with a water test should usually run two hours labor for a tech, and you should get a copy of the computer readout.Make sure you find a tech QUALIFIED in Evinrude direct injected engines. No matter what you do, buying used is always a crap shoot.
