I have a 1972 Evinrude 125 which I believe lost a reed. One of the cylinders has a dry burnt plug looks like theres no fuel in cylinder. Tried switching plug no difference. Looked for the reeds them self but was told they come as an assy only with the block does this sound right.

What is the compression readings? Do you have spark on all cylinders (with the plugs removed) that will jump a 1/4" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame (a real SNAP!)?<br /><br />If the above check out okay, the usual problem is fouled clogged carburetors.

The carbs were rebuilt and I checked the jet to see if it was pluged also the electrode on the plug in this cylinder was smashed and I found little silver ball around the ceramic on the plug.

The reed leafs dont come with block, you can buy them seperate.<br />"little silver ball"<br />Do a compression check on the cylinder in question.

If the plug was smashed, reed valves can go on the back burner for now. Pull the head, and see what you have. Don't worry about compression, de-carb, carb rebuiding. That engine has a serious problem. Pull the head.

The reed leef was probably what he found in the spark plug.

Hopefully. Otherwise its probably part of what used to be a piston.

That was my thinking also that it was the reed I looked in the cylinder and there was no hole in the piston and it was still moving. I also pulled the side cover and did an inspection of piston and cylinder. I will pull the reed assy and see if it is broken.
