Position of the throttle when setting the point? Motor will not run at more than half throttle.

Align the flywheel key with the fiber rubbing portion of the points, then set the points so that a .020 feeler gauge will pass thru the gap but a .022 will not.If you're saying that the engine wants to dies out when throttle is applied, that's usually due to a fouled and/or improperly adjusted carburetor.
