My 80 year-old dad just gave me two small outboards in VERY good condition, except they have been sitting for years. I need to go over them with TLC - I'm sure they may need coils/seals, etc. He can't remember the year they were made, so how can I order parts? One is an Evinrude 3HP Lightwin model number 304 2 B/seriel number 8 9337, and the other is an Evinrude 5HP Angler (can't find a model number?) seriel number 5602C-E01003. How can I find out the year of manufacture, and does anyone know where I may find parts and/or manuals?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Re: Need help identifying year manufacture/model no.s!

Welcome to Iboats, Mark!

3042 is a '62 (excellent engine, by the way. Have a look at Tom Travis' site http://www.outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/)

5602 is a '66. It's sort of similar to Tom's 5.5hp.

The 3hp takes 24:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 outboard oil. The 5hp takes 50:1.

The very best manuals are the factory ones. You can buy them from:
kencook.com
marineengine.com
theoutboardwizard.bizhosting.com
or maxrules.com

Ebay sometimes has manuals too. Use the following search terms:
(3, 3hp) (johnson, evinrude) manual
(5, 5hp) (johnson, evinrude) manual

(Johnsons and Evinrudes from this time were mechanically identical, so you can use either manual)

Parts for both engines abound either in the form of junkyard parts, dealer parts (pretty good prices) or even aftermarket parts (NAPA autoparts, Iboats, various other web retailers offer these). Depends on what you need.

Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions, just ask.
