Evinrude 225 - Reduced RPM....

I have two pairs of 1989 Evinrude 225 engines - which ran perfect last year!

This year one of them has some problems. No starting problems but after a few minutes sailing it falls out. The engine falls to approximately 2800 RPM, and is not going higher. Only after 5-10 minutes with the engine off, it’s ready again.

I think it has something to do with the implemented heat sensor, that reduce the RPM to 2800 to protect the engine from overheating.

However, the compression is fine, the water pump is working and the water is going out the engine again!

Could it be related to the thermostat, although it looks fine – or have anyone experience something similar!?

Best regards,

Bo

Just because its pumping water doesn't mean its not overheating. Does your alarm sound when the problem happens. Are you sure your alarm is functional.
