HI

When my engine is tilted down, gas is leaking into the water. The engine is running fine. The fuel tank was recently overfilled. The power head etc was re-built one and 1/2 years ago. Also, I have a few months less than 2 years on the thermostadts and water pump....is it essential that they are replaced now?

Thanks so much for your help,

Susan

Re: 1988 Evinrude 110 Gas Leakage

Check the gas line and carburetors. If gas is coming from around the carbs it could be the main gasket is leaking. If it is coming out of the carbs the floats may be stuck or defective. Once you locate the exact source of the problem you can fix it. Many people replace their water pump impeller every year, it depends on how much and what kind of boating you do. It is really cheap insurance to prevent overheating and severely damaging your engine. On the other hand the impeller can last for years. I had one that lasted 6 years and it was still good when I replaced it although the impeller usually looks good until it breaks apart.
