After pulling my grey hair out. I found the model Number. It ends up being a 1973 I hope. at least that is what I derived from the broke boat website. still don't know what the "R" stands for. anyway I need a service manual now for a 73 and not a 68. If you could please let me know how to drop the lower unit. I don't have an access plate on the side. and Spark plug recommendation with gap I will assume .030. That seems to be the norm. I appreciate all the help for the 1968 65hp loop charged I was thinking I had. Now that I know the real year. maybe now it will run better. Thanks Rich STS1 USN active.

RC...you gotta keep your posts together. We be gettin' kinda strung out here. "R" is the model run....just about useless to wrenches.

Disregard everything I've had to say about your problem as all of it pertained to a 1968 65hp model.
