Problems only on WOT for 2000 Evinrude 90 HP Ficht

When operating at WOT for 2-3 minutes, the engine starts to lunge and jerk and subsequently slow down to a crawl. If I throttle back then try to go again the problem persists. However, if I turn the engine completly off and then start it won't occur again for 2 - 3 minutes. Also if I run at 4000 RMPs or less this problem does not occur. I have emptied the fuel, replaced it with premium grade and added Sea Foam injection cleaner, but the problem still persists and occurs only if I run at greater than 4000 RPMs. I've tried a few other things like looking for kinks in fuel line, air intake, etc but no luck. Any help or thoughts?

try the easy things first, like the fuel filter or filters, maybe they have not been changed for a while, run off another tank, try to isolate what it ISN'T if you do not know what it IS

Changing the filters is a good idea to start with.<br />Recently had this problem on a Ficht 90 a year newer.Turned out to be a bad diaphram in the lift pump.<br /><br />DHP

Thanks Noelm, I will try the fuel filter next. Haven't been able to locate it though. Thought it might be one of the small in-line type, but a diagram of the lift pump tells me that it's more like a car oil filter and it just screws on and off. Correct?

DHPMARINE,<br /><br />If it's the diaphram in the lift pump will it eventually fail, and result at lower RPMs. Can just the diaphram be replaced or do I have to get the entire lift pump replacement kit?

Have you found the problem wiht this yet? I am having the exact problem wiht my 50 hp evinrude and I have yet to find the problem. I have replaced the power pack, plugs, bulb, fuel line, and had the tank cleaned wiht no luck. I hope this narrows down what it's not. I will let you know if I find the problem.
