Air Filter on 1994 30hp???????

I have a 1194 30hp, and I have never had any issues with this motor until the other day.<br />It has always been worked on in a shop<br />(tune-ups/gear oil changes/etc) Until recently.<br />A couple of weeks ago, it quit while being out on a lake.<br />Long story shorten, a srew was loose on the carb bowl and gas was draining from the carb.<br />I tighten up the bolt and she run like a charm again, except that now I am concerned. <br />I can see inside the carb... there is no cover or anything on the front of the carb. I can see inside to the choike butter-fly.<br />I can't find any pic to know it this is normal or not.<br />I bought the boat and motor brand new in '94 and for the life of me, I can't remember if it ever had anything in front of the carb or not.<br />It appears as if there are 3 holes that something would mount too.... Am I just thinking that my old shop decided it didn't need this or what?<br />BTW, I have moved to a different state and can't go and visit the shop.... or I would....<br />I have attemted to find a pic of a 30 under the cowl, but haven't been successful.....<br />Looking for help.... if it is somethign I am missing I am going to the local dealer and ordering it....<br />Thanks for any input....<br />

Don't think I ever saw an air cleaner on an outboard, Deerhunter.<br /><br />Some put an air diffuser in front of the carb throats to quiet them, but that does not include your 30. The holes around the inlet are there because that same casting was used in other applications that did require an air cleaner.<br /><br />Unless you run into a dust storm on the lake you have no worries.<br /><br />Good luck, and welcome aboard.

thanks for the reply, I really didn't think it was an air cleaner, just couldn't come up with a better name...a diffuser does make more sense....<br />thanks again and I'm glad I found this forum....
