I'm new to boating. I have a 1975 Smokercraft that has had a rough life. I think I need to replace the contols (key, throttle lever that increases speed and also puts engine in gear forward and reverse). They are Johnson brand controls and box. How much would a complete set-up (box and cables) cost? What about the do's and don't's of buying used off of Ebay? Yhanks for your time and trouble. I look forwarf to learning from this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Controls go with motors, not with boats. What motor do you have on your boat? What model outboard.?

The trouble with used controls is that they're just that...used. Some might be OK, others are worthless. Plus, you rarely get enough information from the seller to make sure you're getting what you need.

Are the controls you're replacing side mount controls or something else? Which side?

Opps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is for a 1980 70 hsp Evenrude. They are side mount and go on right side of the boat-same as the steering wheel.
