Hello Bill, I have friends that use anything from an old 1950 2 HP motor and up..I figure if it moves you fast enough for what you want.. Its horse power must be enough...not into the commercial ratings of things... Ross

You can use any size you want to that will fit your tansom. A 5 horse will work on it but will go very slow. I would suggest a min of 25 to 30 hp to have enough git up and go to travel to your favorite fishing spot and get there before the sun goes down. Most boats that size would use a 50-70 hp motor.

hi, i have a 14ft starcraft with a 35hp johnson on it, people have said it's a little oversized for the boat, but i've had no problem with it bogging down or transporting on the trailer, i tow it with a ford ranger, v6, 3l

i've been told the best sized for mine is 25, so with yours being a couple feet longer, i'd say anywhere from 35-50hp should suit you fine, you don't want anything under 15, it'll take you forever to get somewhere, especially with a buddy or two in the boat

sss

It should have a plate with load specs on it that will tell you the max hp for the boat. Try to stay no less then 80%. If you ever do get three or four people in it you still want to be able to go somewhere.
