67 johnson 9.5

Just trying to get my boat going for the summer, I've had it out on the water a few times already but it just isn't running right. I have to keep the engine choked to keep her running... Also it seems like the engine isn't revving as high as it should. I'm more of a car guy so I'm not too sure where to go from here. I replaced the impeller and plugs, what's next? <br /><br />Thanks for any help...<br /><br />Rob

Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />Sounds like you have a varnish problem. The carb is weird, but not rocket science. A can of carb spray and regular tools should be all you need. The carb will have to come apart and get a good cleaning.

I've owned 4 of these stout fat little guys... And it sounds like clogged jetting in the carb...Not a big deal, if you've done automotive carbs this will be a cake walk.. remove the carb get a nice clean work bench and lay a towel on it (an OLD one,not one of the wifes Martha Stewart collections )..Now take the carb apart and clean everything...Don't worry about "float level" you shoudn't need to change it... Try this, it dosn't cost anything so its worth a try.. And let us know if it did the trick

I got the carb off, unfortunately the slip ring that holds the spring on the idle adjuster fell off and into the engine casing... Not too big of a problem, I'm sure I have a few things that will work. The carb wasn't all that dirty inside (no visual obstructions) however I drained about 1/2 a can of carb cleaner into it spraying then blowing it out with an air gun... The only thing that doesn't look good is the float cork. I read once that if they look "oil soaked" it should be replaced? Not too sure whether it is necessary to be replaced. Now I've just got to put her back together.<br /><br />The only other thing is I wasn't too sure about a fuel/gas ratio so the mix I am currently running is about 50:1, any suggestions?

Beautiful... I got the carb all back together and took the old girl out on my pond... It ran great, idled and even ran without the choke on.<br /><br />The unfortunate part about it is that the prop was spinning at lower rpm, but when I tried to open her up it would just rev freely. I believe the hub is worn out, it fits loosly around the shaft and the brass fitting inside is not only crooked but looks to have been epoxied back into place. I'm guessing she needs a new prop, but where is the best/cheepest place to get a 8-1/4X8-1/2 prop? <br /><br />You guys have been great, I really appreciate all the help.<br /><br />Rob
