Hello, I wonder if anyone might have any suggestions for my problem. I have a 1960 Evinrude Lark E 40 HP and the throttle is stuck in the full throttle position, preventing the engine from being started (unless someone shoves the shifter manualy to start while the other person turns the key). It is not the controller or the cable ( I removed them, and the throttle lever still cannot be moved). I have the repair manual for the engine, but the troubleshooting section was not that helpful for this particular problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

Are you talking about the lever on the remote control? If so, you'll have to disassemble the remote and diagnose this problem and fix it.

If you're talking about something on the engine itself, then that's another matter. Check all the linkages for binding, including the roller than follows the timing plate. Something's binding there. You may have to pull the flywheel to get at what's causing the problem if that's where the binding occurs.

Whatever you do, don't run this engine until you've solved the problem! You run a lot of risks starting it the way you described, including a full-throttle start in gear, something guaranteed to cause a man overboard situation.

If it's at the outboard, start at the carburetor and work backwards, disconnecting linkages one-at-a-time until you find the binding point, then repair that. Don't just start disconnecting stuff willy-nilly. I think you'll figure it out pretty quickly.

Good suggestion, russeller. If that's it, a good shot of grease in the zerk should free it up. I forgot about that fitting. The throttle on my Johnson RDS-20 was a lot nicer after I greased that fitting.
