I would like to double check the oil/gas mixture on my 1982 Evinrude 70hp engine. I bought the boat off my grandfather and he said it is 50:1 but the engine seems to knock a bit. Is 50:1 correct and is there anything I can do to have it run a little smoother or is that the way a 2 cycle sounds?

Thanks!

Hi TSales,
There is going to be a small amount of a "knocking" sound that is typical of the 3-cylinder loopers. They aren't the smoothest running motors out there - not like a 4-cylinder Merc 50 or a little 2-cylinder Johnrude 5.5, but they aren't transom thumpers either. Not having heard your motor I would be unable to tell you whether your motor's noises are normal or not...
50:1 is correct.
- Scott

Thanks for your help Scott! This boat has been an adventure, but it is worth it and this forum has been great.

Trent
