Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing well. This is my first post so I'll appologize in advance if I outstep my boundaries. I have a 1997 Johnson Outboard Tiller with a hydraulic tilt/trim system. The motor is stuck in the up position and I have a fishing trip planed this weekend. The tilt/trim button doesn't work but when I press it the relays just click. I replaced the relays and the tilt switch on the side of the motor but the tilt/trim will still does not work. I think I have a hydraulic pump issue. Is there a way to bypass the hydraulic pump and manually lower the motor so I can at least go on my trip? Please respond when you can with any ideas.

Thanks,

Mike

Welcome to iboats.
There should be a manual release screw usually on the bottom of the pump. Loosen it a little and let the motor drop about an inch and tighten it back, then try and lower it again with the button. If you cant find the screw, you should be able to just loosen the line on the pump just enough let the motor drop, tighten, and try the switch again.

If your only hearing a click it could be one of two things. An electrical problem with your relays, or your hydraulic pump is not working.

Seeing how you replaced the relays, I would take a look at your pump.
