I just recently bought a 24' Pontoon boat (triple toons) with a 1998 Johnson 175 ficht with all the 1999 upgrades and 268 hours on it. Engine runs great and seems to want to run up to 5500 RPM's easily which I have been hitting before planing out to about 75% throttle which averages 4800 RPM's cruising along.

Question: What is the reccomended operating range for this motor? Can I run 5500 RPM's all day while tubing & skiing or should I keep running as I am at around 4800 RPM's?

Re: 1998 Johnson 175 ficht Engine RPMS

You can run all day long at WOT or at 4800 whichever your more comfortable at. Two stroke engines can run WOT all day no problem. 5500 is a pretty good WOT, but most people like to get them a little higher to around 5800. As long as you have your WOT RPM's high enough, then you can run your engine at any RPM and it will be OK, if you were getting say 5200 at WOT, then you would be lugging your motor at any and all RPM's and would have to try different things to get the WOT higher.

Thanks for the info.

So you are basically telling me that I can cruise / ski my lake all weekend at a fairly constant 5500 RPM without hurting the motor?

Anyone know what the reccomended Operating range is on my model? Max HP at what RPM's?

Thanks!
