I have a 1986 Evinrude 175hp outboard motor. It is a 2 cycle V6. Me and my brother just took it out the other day after the winter. We filled the tank up with 40 gallons of gas then added the oil to make a 50-1 ratio. It started up fine and we took it nice and easy for aobut a quarter tank then when my brother full throtteled it we were goin pretty well and after we stopped he tried to full throttle again and it would just bogg down. It idles fine and up to 2000rpms it runs fine and also out of gear the engine runs great. Only when we initiate the prop and put the throttle past 2000rpms it just has a total loss of power. It was just worked on and checked by a mechanic before we took it out and hes at a loss for a reason why. If you have any suggestions or reasons i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Fishing line wraped round the prop would cause your problems.

Do you have fresh plugs in it and what plugs are you running?

Yes they are brand new champion plugs and no nothing was caught in the prop. After taking it out though the plugs were foweled.

You said you added oil to the gas to make it 50:1, that's fine if the VRO is not hooked up anymore or if it doesn't have it, I think that is on the border of the year they started using it, if it's still hooked up and you added oil to make 50:1 then you are now running 25:1 and could be fouling your plugs.

I have same exact problem. Ended up being a frozen timer base. Check yours for freedom of movement.
