I recently bought a used boat with this motor, the temp gauge did not work so I replaced it with a new one. When the Ignition is turned on (motor cold not running) the gauge moves up to arounf 140 and with motor running it moved up close to 240. Pump was just replaced and it's peeing great, motor is not running hot. I think thier may be a problem with the thermostat??? and suggestions would be greatly appericated.
The problem is with the guage, That engine with a non pressurized cooling system, can't hit 240 degree's. 140 degree's should be about right with the engine at idle, not at cold, before start-up with the key on. I should not have said it can't hit 240 degree's, it certainly can without cooling water. At that point, it should come to a squeaking stop.
