New to the forum....
I have an Evinrude Lark 35 that I am unable to start. This motor has electric start and a pull cord. I am unable to get the pull cord to pull out at all or move the "flywheel " with the starter. The motor appears to be in nuetral. I am sure that it has been a loooong time since it was started but I do not know exactly how long. How can I tell if the engine is seized up or if it is just tight from sitting for so long. ANy advice on things I can try. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hey Billyjack,

I think that it sounds like a seized up motor, but you could try turning the flywheel by hand...it should turn, mine does. I have a 1961, 40 H.P. Johnson. If the motor is seized, you could put penetrating oil in the cylinders after you remove the sparkplugs and leave it over night, then try and pull the cord to turn the motor over. Do not pull cord with plugs in. My motor had been sitting for four years and was still able to turn over after I bought it.
You may have to remove the power head and dissassemble it to figure out what is wrong with it. Use new gaskets and lithium grease on reassembly.

and for best results when putting the oil into it, face the plug holes up so the oil goes all the way around each piston. may take a while to free it up (if it did not have a melt down)

and welcome to I-boats
