I recently acquired an old Johnson motor with model# MO-14E and Serial# J2913741,
Could someone help steer me in the right direction as to what year and horsepower motor she might be?
Any other tips or pertinent information would be greatly appreciated!
We tried to get her running today but found a few problems with the carb. Any advice on where to find parts for an old motor such as this?
Thank you!

Re: Old Johnson outboard help

I think that is a MQ-14. If so, that would be a 1968 9.5HP Johnny, Ironhed.

Any JohnnyRude dealer or NAPA store can order you parts, but try here first: http://www.boatmotors.com/parts/

You ought to get a Service Manual, too. Google up Ken Cook. They can sell you a reprint of the OEM Manual.

Or you can get an aftermarket manual here: http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html

Good luck, and welcome to iboats. :)

Re: Old Johnson outboard help

Thank you very much JB for the reply and the links you supplied! They will come in very handy.

I must say this is a very interesting discussion board...one could learn quite a bit!

Any suggestions if I can't get her running on selling as a fix-er-upper? Would $100 be too much to ask?
It looks as if someone ran it in saltwater and there is quite a bit of oxidization.

Best Regards,

Ironhed

Re: Old Johnson outboard help

Have you bought any marine parts lately. If there is anything wrong with it you are likely to have more than that in it yourself.
