Welcome to iboats. There are several recent post withthe same problem you are having that you might want to read. Sounds like it is time for a carb rebuild. Folks here will want a model number to go by.

Re: 1997 Johnson Faststrike stalling on take-offs

Welcome!!

We assume you have a 60* 150 or 175, correct?

The most common cause of stalling on acceleration is dirty carbs. However it, in most cases, is fairly consistant. If the motor has been sitting for a while (winter storage) and was fine when you used it last, that would be a good place to start.

Another cause could be a sticking sensor support plate. If the plate sticks when the throttle is advanced, you wont get any timing advance and as the carbs open it will stall.

With the motor off, advance the throttle and see if the plate sticks. Sometimes the slight vibration of the running motor will help it to advance. If it sticks with the motor off, it may stick with it running. If its free with the motor off it will always be free.

This is all assuming that when it stalls its still running on all 6 and it will start right back up.
