My johnson outboard has intermittent power problem. It may run great for 30minutes or all day. Then if running at high speed, it cuts back as if at 1/2 throttle and begins to miss. If at idle speed, it will die out. The only way to keep it running if it dies is to manually engage choke repeatedly while limping back to dock. I have replaced fuel lines, filters, gas tank, changed gas etc, cleaned carb. It feels like the high speed jet clogs up when it fails at high speed but it misses and chugs at low speed during a failure. Sometimes it clears itself & may run fine again for 30 min or 2 days?

Any suggestions

When you replaced the tank did you replace the anti siphon check valve?

had similar problem with 65 horse, as it turned out, it ran fine with the cover off but intermittent when one.. I thought it was ready for a rebuild.. but found that the ground wire to the power pack was corroded. Ran a new wire directly from the battery neg. where it connected to the engine and back to a new connector to the pack.. no more problems..
