Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I seem to have a leak comming from the top end of the engine and runs down the shaft. It only leaks about as much as is shown in the pic in the link below, and then quits. Never makes it to the ground. Almost as though the carbs are draining. When the boat is on the trailer, I have it trimmed down all the way. Any ideas of where I should start to try to figure this one out? Any help would be appreciated, as I'm pretty new to the outboard maintenance world.

If there is any other information you would like to know about the motor, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

engine pic

Welcome aboard bleppek!

Swipe your finger under the carb cover. If you come up with oil, replace the carb cover gasket. There is a little drain hose that sucks the droppings from the bottom of the carb cover back into the engine. If the gasket on the cover leaks, what you got is what you get. You can also look for a small fuel line leak or maybe a recirc hose that is cracked. How does the engine run?

Engine runs pretty good. Gets my 16.5 ft Stratos bass boat up to 53mph @ 5500rpm.
I just bought the boat last fall, so I don't know a whole lot about the history of the motor.
