Ok...please dont write back and tell me to measure the transom, I know that part.

What I need to find out is, how do you tell if a boat requires a long or short shaft motor? What is the formula for determining?

For example, I have a Crestliner CR 1448 flat bottom duck boat. Do I want a long shaft 25 or short shaft on this boat with a 15" transom height?

TIA

The Only determining factor is the transom height. You want a shortshaft.

The cavitation plate should be approximately even with the bottom of the hull.

25" is extra long. 20" is long and 15 is short.
