Moderator-Please move this post if necessary, Thanks<br /><br />I have a 1990 Sunbird Barletta 204 cc w/120 Johnson ob. The throttle/gearshift lever is all thats exposed and the "guts" are mounted behind an upholstered panel. I removed the 2 screws that hold the handle outside cover and did not see a way to remove to get the linkage behind out. I need to grease the moving parts as I'm quite sure it has never been done before. Could someone tell me how to get this thing apart to access things? Thanks

Alden.....there is either a chrome plate or a black plastic plate...round on one end and square on the other....behind the throttle control handle. Which one is it? This will be true if it's an OMC control.

I'm curious myself. I assume there's three screws holding the controls in place and the handle comes off somehow. I need to grease mine too, but I haven't made time to figure out how the handle comes off.

Well 73Baja, as you can see from the amount of bumps on this post we'll either have to look somewhere else or post again to get an idea how to do it.OBJ started to help but must have got busy or is perhaps actually BOATING. That is after all what this site is for.

Ok 73Baja, here is the procedure:<br /><br />Gather the following tools and materials.<br />1) OMC Triple Guard Grease<br />2) Flashlight<br />3) Small Mirror<br />4) Any finger of your choice<br /><br />Using the above tools, shine a flashlight up into the area behind the panel. Next, using the mirror, smear grease all over each moving part you can see while moving the throttle back and forth.<br /><br />This technical article will probabally be added to the FAQ section making me the next Joe Reeves (or not)
