I have a old johnson 5.5 hp model cd-13 ser #1371610

2 Questions

1, What year is it, I'm guessing 55 or 56

2, I need to remove the flywheel and it will not come off. I read on another post to use a harmonic balance puller with 1/4-20 grade 8 bolts and pull from the 3 holes near the center nut

Any help would be great

thanks mike

Welcome to Iboats, mike!
Johnson CD-13
Year: 1956
HP: 5.5
WOT RPM: 4000
Displacement: 8.84 cubic inches
Cylinders: 2
Weight: 51 lbs
Gear ratio: 15:26
Lower unit oil: OMC/BRP HiVis or equivilant 90w outboard gearcase oil.
Fuel/Oil mix ratio: 24:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil.
Spark plugs: Champion J6C gapped at .030"
Tom Travis' excellent 5.5hp site
Catalog
From the Old OMC Site

2) Yup, that's how you do yours too. Grade 8 bolts arn't necessary for that smaller flywheel. But where it's a tool, why not get something decent eh?

No trouble! Tom's method of removing the flywheel works too. I just don't like beating on the end of the crankshaft with a hammer.

I just got it off, you need to get 4" long 1/4-20 bolts, I bought 2"s any it too short for the puller.

Now I need coils and condensers

Thanks again

Mike :)

No trouble! I should have mentioned that about the bolts.
Personally, I find the German made aftermarket (18-5181) coils superior to the OEM ones. Good luck with it!
