Evinrude steering cable remove and replace

HELP! I have a old Arrow Glass puma tri hull boat with a 76 evinrude 85hp outboard. The steering cable snapped. The problem is that when i try to remove the teleflex cable the threaded end of the cable will not clear the tube through the engine before it has to make a sharp curve in the hull of the boat. It seems that I have to remove the engine! Does this sound correct, or am I not getting it?

You may very well have to lift the engine.

Sometimes, you can hacksaw the old cable off and snake a new one in.

Be prapared to rent a "cherry picker" to lift the engine.

Remember to seal the engine mounting bolts with 3M 5200 sealer.
