1966 Evinrude 80 hp coil

I would like to know if it is possible to get a regular car engine coil to work on my motor or do I need to get the coil that fits for that engine? I also need to find a wiring diagram for it. can I get some help?

yes, but you need one with a built in resistor

Bye a quality coil from a known brand , bought a noname cheep coil when restoring my engine ,it lasted 20 min on idle , It still measures ok , but NO spark .<br />Later I bought a coil from Bosch ( used in Audi , BMW ,** ), prize ? 450 NKR = $70.- , still works :cool:

when i bought the motor it did not come with the coil and the person that I bought it from did not mark them. one comes from the distibutor one is for the tach. the other one is not marked where do these wires go on the coil? please help!!

Power +12V goes into the coil tru its external or internal reisitor , 12v when ingnition is on .<br />The black ? wire comming from the ditributor goes to the - pol on the coil .<br />Clean the points , adjust to .020" or 0.5 mm .<br /><br />If you want a tack , connect the tack wire together with the black wire ( - pol ) .

Treat it well , good fresh food ( gas )with some good quality TCW 3 oil (50:1 mixture) .<br />You should also get a manual for it , nice to have .<br />Do a search her of the forum for how to adjust carburetor + ignition , look for Joe Reeves , he got some good posts about it.<br />Good luck . :)
