After being given a 1971 Searay with a 150 HP Evinrude it was discovered that the tilt/trim motor was shot. Ok, I obtained a good working one at a nautical flea market. Then after removing the engine from the boat I discovered what looks like a V-shaped (steering/engine mount)that connects the upper mount and lower mount is quite rusted and seems to be needing replacement. The engine rotates on this part. The steering cable connects to an arm coming off of it. One, I'm not certain of this parts name nor am I able to find one.

Can anyone help?

Can you draw or take a picture? I think you might be referring to the transom clamp tube.... but I'm shaky on the dianosis. I'd like to see a pic! jcs@wabash.net

I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it. In the mean while, the shift rod runs from the lower unit thru this tube to the power head. The tube portion is what i'm looking for. It pivots in the transom bracket and holds the motor assembly with 4 bolts 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom.
