Re: tach

Tach gets its rpm signal from a gray colored lead from the voltage Reg/rec.Test across battery terminals first with engine off and then with it running and throttled to around 2500 rpm and note whether the voltage increases from around 12 volts(not running) to 13-14 volts (while running).

Re: tach

Shouldn't have to go to engine. All tach connections can be made at the ignition switch (ground, hot, rpm signal). Look for black, red and grey on tach and black, red and grey behind ignition switch. Connect 'em up. Of course, if red is dead, you've got another kind of problem.

Re: tach

Normally a bad rectifier is what kills the tach. The test OB said to make will verify this.
