Need to buy new engine for my Gheenoe. The candidates are Honda BF5, 1 cylinder, lighter and a couple hundred $ less than Yamaha and Yamaha F6, 2 cylinders.

What are the pros and cons of 1 vs 2 cylinders? Will one idle smoother, be more reliable, easier to start (pull start)?

Thanks for any advise/thoughts.

A twin is always smoother, Traffic, but usually heavier, too.

On such a light boat vibration from a single can get very annoying.

I think I would go for the twin as long as it is not too heavy and doesn't upset the trim.

Good luck. :)

I was looking at the small engines for a friend too, and I liked the Yammy best.

But the Suzuki 6 HP 4-stroke has a very nice feature, it is the built in fuel tank. Doesn't hold a lot, but it may save you taking a tank in your boat for short trips.

Ron
