1971 Johnson 60 HP

I've acquired a 1971 Crestliner with a 60 H.P. Johnson outboard motor. The boat has a total of only 14.0 hours on it so it's in immaculate shape. However, it has not been on the water in about 20 years and has just been sitting in storage since. My question is, what all do I need to check (or possibly rebuild) before trying to start this boat? I'm very good with cars but have never worked on a boat before. I've got a Seloc manual on the way. The model number for the engine is 60ESL71E and it's a 3-cylinder.<br /><br />Thanks in advance!<br />Scott

For starters.<br /><br />1. Rebuild the carburetors.<br /><br />2. Replace the water pump.

Your fuel lines are probably hard and cracked. Same with your fuel pump diaphram.

Hi Scott you should check compression and spark change the impeller a good carb clean / rebuild would'nt hurt lower unit oil all fule lines and wires also check the coils for cracks 20yrs things dry and crack good luck keep us informed

Thanks for the tips guys. Where might I find such replacement parts as a fuel pump, water pump, etc?

you can check here on Iboats under parts also if you have a NAPA auto parts in your area
