Default Evinrude 65 hp "Selectric Shift" no neutral

Hello all. I have just bought a 1973 SuperGypsy 15 that has a Evinrude 65 on it. The engine runs great but I can't get it to shift into neutral. It has the "Selevtric Shift" controls. It is always stuck in forward but I can put it into reverse by putting power to the green or blue wire going to the lower unit. Nether wire has power on them like i was told they should. Any help would be realy nice. Thanks

Those electric shifters fail in Forward mode, so you can get back to the dock. That you can shift to reverse by powering one of the wires is a good sign. More than that I cannot advise, since I don't have one of these motors, nor have I worked on one.Look to the source of 12 volts that feeds the shifter switch. That may be where your problem lies.

Thanks. It sounds like there might be some hope then. The forward switch has 2 wires both wires are white one of them are bigger than the other the neutral switch has 3 wires one is blue one is purple the other is purple/green both purple wires are on one terminal. The reverse switch has 1 wire a green wire. Ive took the wires off the switch and if the 2 white wires are not connected together the engine will not crank so i think they carry the power.

power the blue and green wire and this should put you in neutral. The automatic for this engine is forward with no fire going to lower unit it will be in forward that is so if you should have lower unit power failure you would be in forward to get home on. power to both the blue and green wire should put you in neutral.
