I cannot locate the model number. I think the motor is around the 1980s.

Thanks.

Hey, fella!
I'm new here, too, and I don't know much but I've got a '79 Johnson 140 and the ID tag is on the outer side of the left mounting bracket, where it mounts onto the transom. I also remember seeng some type of ID on the engine, under the cowl, somewhere. My model number is 140TL79R so look for a similar format.

Best of luck!
HH

Welcome - You can also look for the model number which is stamped on what looks like a freeze plug on the block.

Thanks everyone. I looked around and still cannot find it. It appears the motor had been repainted. I found a few different numbers but nothing that looks like what was desribed.

I would like to send some pictures but cant figure out how

Thanks.

You have to host the pics at another site and link them here. These are really easy to use:

http://xs.to/
and
http://tinypic.com/

Also, post the serial number off the welsh/freeze plug if it's still there.
