1976 25hp Evinrude... Tell tale?

Hi, does this motor have a tell tale for the water pump? When I start it, water comes out of the exhaust housing like its suppose to, but there is no tell tale stream from the powerhead. Was it not equipped with this when it was new? Thanks

The 1976 was first year with tekktake, as far as I remember. Are U sure of the year. If U are, look under the lower cowling on starboard side. You will see a black nozzle, try to run a wire or something up it to clean what is blocking. Otherwose you may have a weak water pump.

I dont see anything on the lower cowling that would be a tell tale. Also, I see no hoses going from the powerhead to the lower housing. If this didnt come with one, can I make one for it? Does water flow through any hoses that I could tap into to make a tell tale? Thanks

Are you sure of the year? My '70 25hp is through the exaust. Post your model number and one of the experts can tell you the year. Mike

When I got my motor, it was strongly suggested to get a manual. I got a copy of the service manual and the parts manual. It makes all the difference.

I was told by my local marine shop that it was a 1976 from the model number. I cant check it right now as its raining outside. Any suggestions on making a tell tale?

According to this http://web.archive.org/web/20020124182028/http://www.evinrude.com/docktalk/modref/modelyr.html <br />it's a '76. Sorry, but I don't know about the tell tale. My '72 does not have one and as long as there is plenty of water coming out of the exhause port I'm happy. I'm not positive but I think one reason for a tell tale was because of thru-hub exhaust. If you don't have thru-hub exhaust then the exhaust port under the cowling pretty much tells you what's going on with your water pump.
