I have a 2000 115 Johnson that I keep tilted up because it sits in the water(Salt). I had not used it for about a week when I tried to move the motor down. The pump runs and sounds normal but it doesn't budge. There seems to be fluid in it because I opened up the fill hole until it started to come out. I would like to also know how to release the pressure.

Andy

There should be a manual release screw on the starbord side of the engine mount, it will take a scewdriver as it is inset

Will doing that let the fluid out or just release the pressure. I don't want to let any out in the water.

Releasing the screw will only release the pressure, no fluid. Do not 'unscrew' the plug screw more than one and a half turns though. It should come on down with that....................piniongear

hello
if its the fast track unit with a showa pump the manual screw is on the port side bracket. its a common problem. last I looked none of the pump/valve body parts are availible from BRP. but the yamaha is the same unit with a different paint color. however the main valves alone on the units are 106 apiece. the complete body assy from BRP is about 250 or so. buy extra trim motor bolts and be prepared to use heat. the 4 bolts that hold the motor to the pump body like to corrode. I have a friends 3cyl 50 with the same problem and its the pump assy failing. but every so often he has to lower it manually and it will work for a bit. sooner or later he will have to fix it.

Thanks for the help guys. The release screw was on starboard side. Once it went down I then tightend everything back up and tried to move it. It took a few seconds to build up pressure but it finaly started working and seems fine. guess I need to take it out of the water and check the fluid and get it serviced.

If you are leaving the engine set with tha tilt in the full-up position, and just resting on the cylinder's, it is probably hydro-locking from setting in the heat of the sun. Don't do that!

I agree with Mr. R. Johnson there. If you are storing the engine in the tilted position and simply resting on the cylinder rods...Do not do this.
You need to raise the engine, flip out the rest bracket and let the engine weight down on the rest.
I hold the button to keep the tilt going down after the engine has set just to keep the rods fully retracted while in storage for longer than a day or so.
You also never want to tow the boat without the engine on the tilt rest bracket (if you tow with the engine tilted)......................piniongear

I Have been tilting the motor all the way up and just leaving it there because thats the only way to keep the motor all the way out of the water and thats what all the other people on my canal also do. We all know its not the right way to let it sit but I figured it was better than letting the prop sit in salt water. When I get back from work friday I will post the model #. It is a carberated 2 stroke with oil injection. Thats all I know for now. Thanks
