Anyone know whether this engine is meant to have a tell tail. I have changed the impeller, replaced cracked coils and serviced the carb. It runs perfectly but I've never ran an engine that doesn't have a tail of water to show it is being cooled properly. Is this normal?

Welcome to iboats.

Telltales came several years later. Before that, the way to tell was to check for water spray out the back. On a 3Hp, there won't be much. But it should get your hand good and wet in just a few seconds if you hold it down there while it's running.

Thanks. That's a weight off my mind.

Look for some small holes facing aft about mid way up the leg. That is the exhaust relief. You should get some spray from those.

If they are clogged, you can usually open them up with a toothpick.
