need lower unit evinrude 1994

I have an Evinrude E50TLERE and it has no lower unit. Someone is offering me a late 80's lowerunit that he claims will fit. He says Only the prop shaft is different size but he will add the prop.<br />Does anyone know if he is right. I only found that this model was build from 92-98 and 40-50hp will fit.

sometime about 89 the drive shaft splines changed on the two cyl. the older units wont fit the newer. I cant remember the exact year but I am thinking it was 89. the prop shaft size has not changed in years.

Thanks, <br /><br />you saved me a lot of trouble. Back to my search again. These newer lower units get pretty pricy, cheapest I found is $900.
