No offense intended here and you may already be aware of the following, but for those that don't, this might be interesting.<br /><br />The thermostat outlet(s) are the holes/slots that one can see just above and to the rear of the cavitation plate.<br /><br />The outlets just below the cowl are the exhaust relief holes. With the engine in the water the exhaust would have no outlet at a low rpm if not for those holes.... and if the exhaust could not exit, the engine could not run.<br /><br />That long housing between the lower unit and the powerhead (exhaust housing) has a inner housing. The space between those two housings fill with water to cool the metal from the red hot exhaust. When the water level obtains a certain height, the exhaust pressure blows the excess water out those holes.
