I noticed the other day that I have a broken wire on my 76 85HP Evinrude. Things seem to be running okay but I was just wondering what it could be. It is the black wire that connects to the main terminal strip on top of the motor. It appears to be coming up from behind the round thing in the image. Thanks in advance.

http://www.chatom.com/pics/brokenwire.jpg

From the picture, it looks like a red wire in a black insulator sleeve. If so, it comes from that round thing which is the rectifier. It supplies the DC volts to charge the battery. It must be repaired.

Thanks for the info. I will take care of it this weekend. Also thanks for letting me know what the rectifier is. Still new to all to this. Thanks again.
