I have a 1984 50 HP 2 cylinder Evinrude. The 40 ,50 and 60 HP engines are all the same bore and stroke. The books that I have shows no differents in part numbers for the carburators, intake, reed plate of the 50 and 60 HP. The exhaust parts also are the same. Does anyone know what was done to increase the horsepower from 50 to 60. In the 9.9 hp a simple carburetor change from the 9.9 to the 15 worked great. I can't find the difference in the 50 to 60....Help

Re: Evinrude Carburetor swap

Hi Mark....welcome to iboats!

Funny you should post this cause I have the same 50hp you have.... :) . Really decent running engine. When I got mine, I wondered the same thing looking at the part numbers and what not. The heads do have a different part number. SO, I got a 60hp head. Couldn't really see the big difference but installed it anyways.....Along with Boyesen Reeds. Now....I don't know for sure but, my buddy has a 18' Sea Nymph with a 90hp Rude with Reeds. My 50 was on a 16' StarCraft SuperSport...both aluminum boats....I can take my buddy outta' the hole and he just creeps by me. Am I getting 60 ponies outta mine....welllll...don't know that for sure but it runs super!!
