Ok Bombardier has stopped providing any info for a serial # search past 1996, my tag on my motor is gone and I only got the serial # tag on the block left.Anyone have any archived info for a year cross? The # is C8079598 and it's ether a 9.9 or 7.5.<br />Thanks all.

I don't know if they ever did pre-1996 stuff, but if you search Iboats you can find a lot, like:<br /><br />c8014388 1978<br />C8019151 1978<br />C8021721 1978<br />C8046962 1979<br />C8079374 1980<br />c8087658 1980<br />C8109376 1981<br /><br />So, looks like you've got a 1980 model there. Can't tell HP that way though. If I'm not mistaken, the 7.5hp has an exhaust outlet coming out of the cav plate (pin drive prop), while the 9.9 is thru-prop exhaust (spline drive prop).<br /><br />The 9.9 appears identical to the 15hp.

Thanks Paul your right about the pin on the prop shaft for the 7.5 I meant to say 15 (had 7.5 on the brain for some reason)Anyway you used to be able to pull up a claims history for a engine on their site but they no longer go past 1996.Ever since they took over in 2000 they have been slowly removing all useful info on the early J and E products,go figure.I just wish they would provide another source .

Your welcome!<br />I agree it certainly is disconcerting about the abandonment of support for pre '96 outboards. Hopefully Bombardier will come to it's senses and realize that customer support is one of the main reasons people buy Johnson/Evinrude outboards. Information is so cheap and easy to disseminate these days, it's a wonder why they would cancel a service like that.<br />I've seen dealers here search out information on later model serial numbers, but I was unaware that they once were able to find early model ones.<br /><br />I don't know if this is true or not, but it might help. From LeeRoy Wisner's 9.9/15hp Page:<br />
The outside visual dimensions of both carburetors appear the same, unless you look inside the throat. The 9.9hp carburetor’s internal throat is .625 dia., 15hp internal throat is .875 dia. The outlet throat dia is the same on both & match the manifold port dia. The idle jet venturi system is also slightly different between the two. The part number for the 9.9 hp Carburetor Assembly is #388936, while the 15 hp Carburetor Assembly is #338273 up to 1987.
