Default Model Number Problem (Evinrude?)

I had a long lost friend build an outboard motor for me. He said he used a Johnson unit w/Evinrude power head. The only numbers I have are from the Welch plug and nothing more. I've used every means I know of to find out what motor I have. The numbers are:16AMRJAS and R1518349. Can anyone help me w/the make and year of this motor. Supposed to be a 115 and was reported as a late 80s.

Welcome!!The 16AMRJA indicates that its a late 80's (sales year 1988) V4 crossflow Sea Drive. Since you found that number on the powerhead plug thats where the block came from. That may or may not be the year for the ignition and/or carbs. Your builder can tell you that. We can help narrow it down but the easiest thing is to ask him. If the ignition and carbs came from the same place as the block then youre set. Most likely the mid section is not from a Sea Drive. The lower unit could be from a Sea Drive, Johnson or Evinrude. Not much difference anyway. What is it youre looking to do or change or fix or ?????

Thank you so much for the info. I am ready to start the motor but I have to wire it first and I couldn't find a wiring diagram. I purchased a manual that covers Evinrude/Johnson 48-235Hp, '73-'89. So I guess I lucked up and got the right book. Sea Drives are covered as well but I had never heard of them. Startup and future refference is my goal right now.
