Are these covers the two small covers on each side of the midsection? If so, behind them are the lower motor mounts. No need to pull the covers.

You'll have to remove the lower unit to get to the water pump. Disconnect the shift rod up under the lower carb, remove the trim tab to get at the bolt under it and also the bolt right in front of the trim tab and the four bolts, two on each side of the lower unit. The lower unit should drop off.

Water pump

I have a 120Hp johnson 1987 and I would like to change the water pump. Can this be done by entering from the covers on either side of the leg or do I have to remove the bottom half to gain access. If so can someone help and tell me what is in behind the two covers.Do not want to remove without knowing what is behind them. Thanks Budda
