Default 208 adventure

I just purchesed a 1996 208 and see there is a problem with the fuel and ampmeter, with the ignition off the fuel gauge sits at half full and the ampmeter shows halfway at 13 volts.Turn the ignition on and both gauges peg themselves at the top. Have checked sending unit, ohms are correct I unpluged it, tried the key, now only the ampmeter will do this.Is it possible bouth gauges are shot? Checked all connections nothing unplugged or corroded that would indicate a short outside the gauges. Has anyone heard of this problem or have a possible fix
