Default How do I read this number?

I have a 87 mercruiser alpha 1 with a 3.0 The prop number is 48 78118 A40 17P I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a new one or have 1 blade repaired that is a little chipped up. I'ts has a few chips about 1/8 deep about 2 inches long. It looks like it was dragged a little on just one blade. Thanks for any help Ernie

Being that your boating season is just about over take it to a prop shop and have it repaired. A Google search says that's a 14.5 x 17" prop and should be in the sweet spot for your boat depending on your gear ratio and WOT RPMs.
