Friends of mine thinking of boating from Montreal to Ottawa via lake of 2 Mts. thu the locks and wrapping back around thu 1000 islands back to Montreal.
Sounds good but this is a big haul for us as we live in Halifax.
My question is, how many days would you recommend, is the water clean for swimming and does anyone have comments on such a trip or web sites to refer?
last yr. we towed the boat to lake Winnipesaukee in NH and it was allot of fun as the weather was great, this year the weather has been poor at best in Atlantic so I'm considering joining this trip to the locks.
Water is clean but cold. Locks are a great experience. Sounds like a great trip. Tough to say how many days to allow. It depends on how often you like to stop and for how long. The local tourism board will help you with the timing. They get a lot of folk asking the same question.
Enjoy the trip, let us all know how you make out and welcome to iboats.

We trailered our boats last year to 1000 Island then came home (between Ottawa and Mtl.) through the Rideau Canal. Dropped our boats Friday evening and was back at my dock by Monday in the evening. 1000 Island has gorgeous aqua green water with lots of spots and Island to spend the day. From Kingston to Ottawa is where you need time. It's not far but most place on the Rideau Canal you can't plane and there's 45 locks to go through. It's very scenic and it was a wonderful trip.
Montreal to 1000 Island I suspect can be done in one day two at most as there isn't allot of locks. Would love to do this part of the golden triangle this year.
