Another water pressure gauge ???

I have read and read and am still a little confused about this. First, I have a Johnson GT200 (88) j200stlccm. I had a boat dealer put a new water pump, rebuild carbs and install a water pressure gauge on it. While running it this weekend for the first time since working on it. The water pressure would not read at idle and would go to about 10-14 at wot. I looked to see where they hooked it up at and it was tee'd inbetween the small line going from the thermostats. I'm under the impression it should be hooked up at a scew plug in the adaptor plate. I found the screw plug. Is it the one located on the right side of motor facing motor from back of boat at the very bottom of the block almost against the cover? There is water coming out of the tale tell but it has always taken a few seconds before water starts coming out. I would appreciate some help. Pictures would be great. My camera is messed up.

The OMC/BRP pressure gauge kits come with instructions for your motor which include directions to insert the tee into the line as shown in the photograph of my 1988 looper. The small line at the thermostat is for the control valve and should not have anything attached to it. Please click the thumbnail.

Thank you very much!! Thats where I thought you could hook it up. What is the 1/8" plug with the hex head? Could it be hooked up there? Thanks again.

Re: Another water pressure gauge ???

I hooked mine to the hole that is plugged by the 1/8 in. NPT plug with a hex allen head socket (one located on each side of the exhaust adapter at the rear.). This is the exact hole you are questioning.
At idle, mine reads 12 psi., but I haven't run it at WOT since installation yet.

It took quite a while for the line to pressurize. I suggest that you disconnect the line up at the gauge, run the engine til water comes out of the open line, and then reconnect the line to the gauge. Gets all the air out...

Thanks everyone. I hooked it up as said, but when I put it on the muffs, I couldn't get any water out of the pee hole. I even put a big tote box under it full of water and couldn't get any water out of the pee hole. So I shut it off. The heads got really hot after about 2 min. It done this last year also. Every time I hook it up to the muffs, no water. Take it to the lake and it works perfect. The impeller is brand new, I have only ran the boat once this year as said in the firt post.

check your water tube alighnment pull thermos and replce poppetts flush engin while you at it go thru entire system .the waterpressure gauge teed
at the tale tell will give lower readinds if ya hook there go straight to motor
and do away with tale tale .or tap boss in correct place and you will get better reading and still use youre tell tale

Re: Another water pressure gauge ???

I took the boat to a local pond and put the motor in the water and started it and everything worked perfect. Water started coming out the pee hole after about 20 sec. and the pressure gauge started reading about the same time. The gauge was reading about 4lbs at idle. I rev. it alittle to about 1600 rpms and it read 10lbs. Why won't it put out water on the muffs? I can't figure it out. I didn't bleed the gauge line, but will next time. To see if it gives it anymore pressure at idle.

air pressure = water pressure. It won't make any difference to your gage. pressure is pressure.

Re: Another water pressure gauge ???

Try not to let water enter the line to the gauge and run the gauge line over the engine then out to keep water from following the hose. This will also help to keep air from the cooling system if the gauge hose ever leaks.

I'm not really understanding you. I'm sorry, your probably explaning it right, I'm just being slow at taking the info in.

Re: Another water pressure gauge ???

The gauge works on air pressure not water pressure in the hose running to the gauge. See Item three on the Teleflex chart below:

I understand now. I just had read in an earlier post the guy said to bleed the line. By the way, thanks for all the info and help. It is much appreciated.

Ezeke...you saying that it is incorrect to bleed the air out of the WP gauge line?
I have always bled the air out. Water is not compressable, but air is.
Gauge reads instantly, with no delay.

Re: Another water pressure gauge ???

It has nothing to do with compression. The air or water moves a small curved tube inside the gage. The more pressure weather air or water, the more the tube moves which moves a needle on the gage. i.e. 10 psi of air is the same thing as 10 psi of water as far as pressure is concerned. If it's mixed its still 10 psi.

I don't think you guys are following me. I know that it reads instantly with a full line of water...so I guess I will continue to do it my way....
