Re: First time to Havasu

Bigrox,

Easter has always signaled the start of the River/Havasu season to me. It is low 70's to high 80's depending on storm tracks. If we get late winter storms . . . cold and windy. If not, warm with variable winds. Last year it was a little overcast on April1 and probably 70, the 2nd was gorgeous and close to 80. Water temp I am guessing low 60s. By May water will be 75 and air into 90s and even 100 . . . Goes up from there :^

You can get history here:

Jeez looks like high of 85 this week. What are we waiting for? 8)

Re: First time to Havasu

I went to Havasu last Sunday. A bit crowded but not too bad. The wind kicked up to white caps, and the only boats on the water were tunnel boats. It was about 80 degrees there. I stayed at the Nautical Inn last year and it was $269 per night in the dead of summer. A wonderful experience. I would stay there again and again if I am able get a room.

Hey Jeff,

Another Sleek right? 26 Ambassador? Yes, wind is always the concern early season anywhere on the Colorado except maybe Powell (well at least not as much).

I am going to be doing this Havasu camp thing the May, 4, 5 and 6. All of the related stuff on this thread and the other applies if there is still any interest . . .

Yes it is a 26ft SleekCraft Ambassador. I pickes it up 3 years ago for $2500. I have spent a lot and am still spending on the thing. I am removing the 350ci and am having a 500hp 454ci put in it. I still need to replace the floor, stringers, and upholstery. Unfortunetly I lost my business in February so I have put a hold on the restoration

Re: First time to Havasu

I go down to Havasu and Bullhead city as often as I can. I have 2 lots in Golden Shores (Topock) which are FOR SALE and 1 lot in Fort Mohave which I will build my retirement home on. The garage will be built first so I can store my 3 boats and other truck.

Re: First time to Havasu

I don't think we were there Labor Day, but I could check. If we were in the Channel we would've been underway. We rarely stop, but usually cruise through 2 - 3 times a day.

P.S. You need to turn your PM receive thing on. It won't let me answer you . . .

Re: First time to Havasu

Well after going from Havasu, to Mead, we are now set on Park Moabi on the river. Again, never been here before, but our friends family have a mobile home at the park there. My brother used to go there and get a pennisula campsite and he absolutely loved it.
I can't wait, the mobile home will mean launching the boat every morning since I don't think they have overnight slip rentals there. But still, the convienience of being able to stay in a house on the river way outways that. From what I'm hearing, the ramp at Moabi never really gets to bad anyway. We will be there for the first week of June, TO WEEKS AWAY!!!(sorry about the excitement, first trip of the year). If anyone has any experience at Moabi I would love to hear about it.
And thanks again, QC, for all of the helpful advice.

Re: First time to Havasu

My advice around Moabi is always follow another boat, especially if you are going upriver. South is pretty safe, but there are some shallow areas and the water level changes through the day, if you are following somebody and they stop suddenly . . . abort mission ;) I don't know the water level timing there so ask around. You can go down river though all of the way to the end of Havasu with out having to worry much. Make sure to go through Topock Gorge as it is very pretty. Watch for knuckleheads on the river as there are few escape routes. Be safe and have fun!!
