I thought a while about posting this one. We get plenty of these, but this one has something that should be especially sobering to all of us who think we are too good, or too smart or too experienced to have anything happen to us . . . Despite the irony, I think I do know how this happened. Good diagram that you should click on. I am blown away that I missed this, and it really struck home as my 16 YO was on the Junior Lifeguard program at the same time this happened. His training was at a local lake, this happened just off one of our ocean beaches . . .

There are no words to describe haw that man feels especialy after being decorated and respected by his peers as he is. But as said earlier feeling confident in your abilities can become humbeling in terrible ways sometimes. I just hope the program for the young lifeguards can continue because it is a good character building experience for young teens and adults.

A terribly tragic accident. Very sad for all involved. Bottom line however is that the boat driver is responsible for what happened. Decorated or not, he made a mistake, or was distracted or wasn't paying attention or or or and that cost the girl her life.
